What would you do trapped after an earthquake with the person that just tried to kill you? Alice is in this predicament and battles with revenge versus survival. An unusual concept but an interesting read. Not the fastest paced and generally keeps you intuigued to find out how everything ends.
Jersey Police Chief Sarah Braintree receives a top award for police services just as a killer strikes, leaving notes and clues for Sarah. This seems personal to the killer, striking in quick succession. The clues and riddles make no sense initially and the body count rises. Soon the link is made, Sarah and the team make the deadly connections. A quick paced enjoyable book. Stand alone and you got to know the characters quickly, sympathising with Sarah’s blight. I will certainly be looking to read more from Colin Wade.
25 years again a school girl was attacked by classmates. Now the parent of one of these girls is found murdered. There is something at this crime scene that makes DS Ruth Baylis connect the 2 incidents. Detective Tom Calladine and the team starts to make more links and discovers there was more that happened 25 years ago that wasn’t investigated. It’s good to have Calladine and Baylis back, an great pairing and can easily be read as a standalone book if not read any previous books. They are both likeable characters with their own past. Never a dull moment for the duo!
25 years ago, Melody Jones was taken from a playground. The police were not able to find her. Now, 8 years old Grace is taken. A man walks into the police station claiming to have information on both cases. DI Kim Stone and her team sense something is off and play by Kim’s rules. They soon discover a link between several missing girls in the interim period, some were returned a year later and some never found at all. Dr Alex Thorne also reoccurs, Kim’s arch nemesis. Another gripping read by Angela Marlon’s, it’s hard not to love Kim’s ‘stoney’ personality! I devoured this book in one sitting and can’t wait for the next instalment. A gritty and pacey storyline, with well developed characters. 5 stars!
Helen is 7 years old and finds her self caring for 2 disabled parents. Her childhood is lonely as her dad retreats to the pub and her mum ‘rests’ all the time due to her M.E. Helen’s mother, Elinor’s behaviour is erratic and recovers from her bad spells rather quickly. Over the years the illness increase and become more severe. An awe inspiring true life tale about a daughters turbulent relationship with a mother with Munchausen’s syndrome. Truly compelling, but tragically sad at the same time. You can picture everything Helen describes and can’t help feel she has been let down all her,life by her mother then the medical professionals - some helped but others, failed to unravel the complexity of the situation. A very interesting read, very emotional.
One word for this book…WOW! Caroline Mitchell has surpassed expectations with this latest book. A groups of teenagers have gone to the abandoned Blackhall Manor to play the Midnight Game, where they invite the Midnight Man in and try to avoid being killed before 3.33a.m.. Meanwhile, DC Sarah Noble is returning to work after a leave of absence, and the case takes a personal twist. During the case, Sarah resurrects some childhood friendships, all have secrets from the past. A real gripping storyline, the characters have such depth and hooks about their past to keep you wanting to know more. A brilliant read and highly recommended.
When husband and wife are found killed with their eyes cut out, FBI agents Fisher and Harper are called in. Fisher recognises the work of the killer as The Leopard who has been active for decades. Time is ticking as The Leopard is now making this personal and Fisher needs to solve the identity of the killer before its too late. A truly gripping book that you can’t put down. Even reading mid series, you can easily read this book without missing the character background story. 5 stars.
