My Recommendation

 

Sam and Lauren should be enjoying the honeymoon period after getting married 3 months earlier, however Lauren is found dead at the bottom of the stairs and now the police are not looking at this as an accident.  Sams mum, Georgie and Lauren’s family, Helen, Tom and sister Kate are all devastated.  When Sam gets arrested, Georgie fights to prove his innocence.  Helen falls apart and turns to drink.  Lauren’s friend, Sadie acts suspiciously but not is all as it seems.  
A gripping thriller that’s keeps you guessing until the end.  I really enjoyed this book and looking forward  to reading more by Sue Watson.

Cousins and writing partners TJ and Jane attend a 20 school reunion back in hometown Ketchum.  They are greeted by old friend and long time stalker, Lincoln.  It’s been 2o since they last all saw their friend Evie who went missing in the woods referred to as the Thicket.  
I struggled with this book which was rather sci-fi than crime and not my usual genre of book.  Also seemed quite a long story, but perhaps this may be because of the genre.  I’m sure sci-fi fans will enjoy this story.

DS Lucy McVeigh and sidekick DC ‘The Dunk’ Fraser have been investigating The Bloodsmith and his murders for the last 17 months with little to go on.  At the same time as revisiting old crime scenes, recently released child killer, Benedict Strachten needs Lucy’s help.  
A unique standalone crime thriller with plenty of twists, the last quarter of the book goes to an all time new level.  Quite a long book, but leads up to an epic ending.  Persevere!

DI Barton is back in this 4th instalment.  A prisoner dies of what appears natural causes in prison, but has to be investigated.  But the prisoners wife is nowhere to be found when Barton arrives to deliver the news and the house appears to be burgled and set on fire.  Meanwhile, a top dog in prison is knocked off his perch by new inmates and is put in the vulnerable prisoners unit.  A group from the vulnerable prisoners unit are released and then someone starts to kill them.  Barton is against the clock to find the culprit.
A really enjoyable book, like the rest of the series.  It can be read as a standalone as well.

What a refreshing, gripping storyline.  Avery Mason, tv host is looking to make a feature about the female identified from 9/11 ground zero over 20 years ago.  It turns out Victoria Ford was being accused of murdering her lover when the Towers were hit.  Ex-FBI agent who originally investigated the Ford case is brought back to reopen the case and links up with Avery.  
A compelling plot with some well developed characters and twists that keep you going until the end.  Definitely going to reading more by Charlie Donlea!

My Recommendation

 

DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach return in this 7th instalment of the series.  Ava is mourning and investigating the death of her close friend and team pathologist when events lead to another fatal bombing situation.  Then a whole series of attacks follow and the pressure is on to find the attackers.  A fast paced and adrenaline filled time for Ava and the team which is reflected brilliantly in the writing.  A sub plot, which occurred a few months earlier is also instrumental to the events taking place in the present.
The last chapter really choked me up.  I am anxious to read what happens next.

My Recommendation

 

Thirty years ago Love is living in a commune with her family, looking for a harmonious way of life.  Over the years the cause changes to a darker direction.   In present day, 2 children go missing over night and despite a full search, the only clue found is a mask.  The investigation start to link to the events of the commune which has since been dispersed.
The story is split between several view points and different time periods but is easy to follow.  The suspense builds as snippets of the past are revealed.
An intriguing plot with plenty of tension and suspense.  An enjoyable read, having crime, cult and conflict all mixed in.
